Abstract

Introduction: Preparing people to act in emergencies such as cardiac arrest is crucial to increase the survival of those who suffer from it. Objective: To describe the acceptability, participation experience, and potential effects of implementing the "UN Lifesaver Kids" intervention in schoolchildren. Method: A phase II controlled pilot trial was carried out with parallel groups, with follow-up 1-week post-intervention. The experimental group received the "UN Salvavidas Kids" intervention. Children's acceptability and experience with the intervention were evaluated through a satisfaction questionnaire. The "Theoretical knowledge" and "Practical skills" questionnaires were used to assess the potential effect of the intervention. Results: eighty (80) children participated, the children's overall acceptability and experience with the intervention were 100% and 96%, respectively. The possible impact of the intervention demonstrated a statistically significant difference in the level of theoretical knowledge (4.5-vs-2.0, p<0.05) and practical skills (5.0-vs-1.0, p<0.05) between the experimental group and the control group. Conclusions: Acceptability, experience with the intervention, and potential effects of the intervention can be replicated in future large-scale research.
