Guide to ethics and good practices
The Editorial Committee, the Scientific Committee, and the Editor of the Duazary incorporate into the editorial process the necessary measures to prevent and address malpractice, including content manipulation, fraud, and plagiarism, recognizing the importance of maintaining high ethical standards and the inherent responsibility of scientific publication. According to Merriam-Webster's online dictionary, plagiarism is "an act of fraud in passing off someone else's ideas or words as one's own, or in presenting as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source without acknowledgment," that is, copying someone else's text without citing the source. In this regard, the following guidelines for authors on these issues are provided.
Editorial policy
Authors wishing to publish in Duazary must register in the Open Journal. The manuscript should be submitted through the system (http://revistas.unimagdalena.edu.co/index.php/duazary/user/register). The corresponding author may request and send information via email to revistaduazary@unimagdalena.edu.co. Duazary will also subject all received articles to an originality check using Turnitin software. If a manuscript is found to be identical to another text without proper citation, it will be rejected immediately, and the corresponding author will be notified of the reason for rejection, in accordance with COPE ( Committee) recommendations. on Publication Ethics; http://publicationethics.org/files/Spanish%20%281%29.pdf). In case of partial similarity, the corresponding author will be notified to make the necessary adjustments (inclusion of citations, paraphrasing, use of quotation marks, among others) and thus continue with the editorial process.
Articles from members of the Duazary committees
The Editor, the Editorial Committee, the Scientific Committee, or any other person directly associated with the Journal must refrain from publishing documents requiring peer review to avoid violating the principle of anonymity in the review process. They may only participate as authors of editorials.
Article evaluation and editorial process
Each article submitted to Duazary is considered a confidential document. For this reason, the evaluation process for reviewers and authors is anonymous (masked), meaning that reviewers and authors will remain anonymous to each other.
Author's Responsibilities
Responsibility for the content of the articles rests with the authors; in no case with the editor, the editorial committee, the scientific committee, or the University of Magdalena.
Authors must declare their independence from funding and supporting institutions and that, during the execution of the work or the writing of the article, they were free from biases induced by interests or values other than those typically associated with research. Only articles in which the authors deny any conflict of interest will be considered. In some cases, authors will need to specify the support received (financial, equipment, personnel, in-kind, etc.) from individuals or public or private institutions for conducting the study, as well as any personal or institutional relationships that may influence the conduct, results, interpretation of those results, and the writing of the article. These funding or supporting institutions should be indicated exclusively in the acknowledgments section.
When an author cites another's work or reproduces a figure or table from a book or journal article, they must include permission to reproduce it. In addition, they must cite the source. Authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions to reproduce previously published texts, figures, tables, photographs, or other illustrations.
Material extracted from unpublished letters, manuscripts, and interviews will not be accepted for reference unless the author's permission is obtained; that is, a signed document authorizing the publication of the material in print, digital, or any other media, guaranteeing that it will be used solely for academic purposes. The author will always provide proper acknowledgment of any material supplied to them.
Authors may use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the writing of texts in Spanish or English. Authors must declare the use of AI. However, authors will always be responsible for any inaccuracies or distortions that may arise. Authors are required to declare and present the use of AI in the article. Similarly, Duazary will refrain from publishing figures or images that have been edited with AI. AI will never be listed as an author of manuscripts.
The addition or removal of authors from articles once they have been submitted to Duazary is strictly prohibited. In strictly exceptional cases, after review by the Editorial Committee, an author or authors may be added or removed. To add or remove an author, authors must obtain a signed statement from the other authors of the article. Each person's contribution during the development and completion of the research must be detailed. Individuals who made substantial contributions to the article without being listed as authors may be acknowledged in the acknowledgments, without mentioning titles or acronyms.
When an error is detected in any data of the article that could alter the content of a publication, the author(s) are obligated to inform the journal so that it can modify, retract, or publish a correction. If such an error is discovered by a member of Duazary, the author(s) will be notified and required to demonstrate that the work is correct.
Splitting of manuscripts should be avoided. Given the extensive nature of the study or research, it may be published in several parts, each addressing a specific aspect of the original investigation. The author(s) must ensure that the various related works are published in the same journal to facilitate readers' understanding of the study as a whole.
Editorial responsibilities
At Duazary, the editor and the Editorial Committee are responsible for selecting the articles to be published. The selection criteria are based on the characteristics of the articles, including quality, relevance, originality, unpublished status, and their contribution to the knowledge of the subject matter addressed by the Journal. In this regard, the editor and the Editorial Committee will also consider the diversity and plurality of the Journal's content. If an article is rejected, the author will be informed of the decision based on these factors.
The Duazary editorial team is responsible for the style review, layout, publication, and printing of all accepted articles. Similarly, regarding the dissemination and distribution of the published edition, a maximum of 5 copies will be sent free of charge to the main author of each article, as well as to national and international repositories and indexing systems, as agreed.
Responsibility of evaluators/peer review
The first stage of the review process for an article submitted to Duazary involves a stylistic review by the editorial team. This stage includes checking the manuscript's originality using Turnitin software. Following this, the article undergoes evaluation by at least two external peers (national or international), who assess its originality, depth, and theoretical contributions.
Confidentiality of manuscripts in the evaluation processes
When a manuscript is being evaluated, it must be treated as a highly confidential document throughout the entire editorial process and until publication. It is strictly forbidden to disseminate or share any part or fragment of the document under review. However, there are exceptions, such as the assistance of other subject matter experts to strengthen the review process, with prior authorization from the editor-in-charge of publication.
Editing Rules
A maximum of one direct quotation of six lines per article will be permitted. Authors must ensure that the results presented in figures, tables, or text are original, undistorted, and not the product of mere inspiration. They should bear in mind that plagiarism in any form is considered a scientific misconduct.
Statement of ethical considerations
Following the Materials and Methods section, as a subheading, the procedures followed in the study to ensure compliance with the ethical principles and standards of the 1975 Declaration of Helsinki and its subsequent revisions, as well as Resolution 8430 of 1993 from the Colombian Ministry of Health, should be described. In all cases, it must be indicated how the participants' rights were protected and whether they provided informed consent or authorization for procedures, and this information must be submitted at the time of manuscript submission. Patients' names, initials, or hospital numbers should be omitted, especially in illustrative material that includes the patient's image or any other element that could reveal their identity. When animals are used in experiments, it should be indicated whether the guidelines of the originating institution, a national research committee, or any other relevant body were followed; likewise, any national regulations regarding the handling or use of laboratory animals must be considered.
