Guide to ethics and good practices

Aware of the importance of maintaining high ethical problems and of the responsibility inherent to scientific publication, the Editorial, Scientific and Editor Committee of the Duazary journal, consider in their editorial process, the necessary actions to prevent and avoid bad practices in their content, fraud and plagiarism. That according to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, "it is an act of fraud that constitutes passing off someone else's ideas or words as their own or presenting as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source without the recognition of the case ", that is to say, take a foreign text without citing the source. In this sense, it proposes a continuation of this document that constitutes an orientation guide for the authors on these topics.

Editorial policy

Authors who wish to publish in the Duazary Journal of the Universidad del Magdalena must register in the Open Journal System (http://revistas.unimagdalena.edu.co/index.php/duazary/user/register) and send from this platform the manuscript. As an alternative, the author may send this same information via email: revistaduazary@unimagdalena.edu.co, likewise, and in order to ensure the originality of the articles and respect for the copyright of third parties., the Duazary Journal submits all the articles that it receives in its calls to an originality review, for which they use the Turnitin software. When the total coincidence of the submitted manuscript with another text is detected (without the corresponding citations), the manuscript is rejected immediately. Therefore, it will not be sent for external evaluation and the author is notified of the reason for the rejection, as recommended by COPE according to its acronym in English (http://publicationethics.org/files/Spanish%20%281%29. pdf). In case the similarity is partial, the author will be notified to make the necessary adjustments (including citations, paraphrasing, use of quotation marks, among others) to continue with the editorial process, as long as the requested modifications are made.

Articles of the members of the journal committees

The Editor, the Editorial Committee, the Scientific Committee and / or any other person who is directly related to the Journal, must refrain from publishing documents that require scientific arbitration, in order to avoid violating the principle of anonymity of the review process. With the exception that they can only participate as authors of editorials and reviews.

Evaluation of articles and editorial process

Every article submitted to Duazary is considered a confidential document. For this reason, the evaluation process for both evaluators and authors is anonymous (double blind), that is, the reviewers and authors are not known.

Responsibilities of the author

The responsibility for the content of the articles falls on the authors and not on the Editor, the Editorial Committee, the Scientific Committee of the Duazary Journal or the Universidad del Magdalena.

The authors will declare that they are independent with respect to the financing and support institutions, and that during the execution of the work or the writing of the article, no interests or values ​​different from those usually found in the research have been affected. Only articles in which the authors have no conflict of interest will be considered. In some cases, it will be necessary for the authors to specify the supports received (financial, equipment, work personnel, in-kind, etc.) from people or from public or private institutions for the study, as well as the personal or institutional relationships that They can influence the conduct, the results, the interpretation of the same and the writing of the article. These financing and/or support institutions should be indicated exclusively in the acknowledgments section.

When the author cites the work of another or reproduces a figure or table from a book or a Journal article, you must ensure that you are not violating production rights (intellectual property rights). In the event that an author reproduces tables, photographs or other illustrations, they must cite their origin, presenting the reproduction permits of the case if necessary.

The authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions for the reproduction of previously published texts, figures, tables, photographs or other illustrations.

Material extracted from letters, manuscripts and interviews that have not been published will not be accepted unless the author's corresponding permission is obtained, that is, a signed document authorizing the publication of the material in print, digital or any other media. other means of dissemination to which it gives rise, guaranteeing that it will be done only for academic purposes. The author will always make an appropriate acknowledgment of any material supplied to him.

The inclusion or removal of authors of the articles will not be allowed once it has been submitted to Duazary. This will only be approved in strictly exceptional cases, for which the written consent of the authors who will be included or withdrawn must be obtained, in the same way a signed statement must be obtained from the other authors of the article, mentioning in detail the contribution of each person during the process of elaboration and culmination of the investigation. People who in some way or another made substantial contributions to the article, but who are not considered authors of the article, should be named in the acknowledgments without mentioning titles or acronyms such as: Prof., Dr. PhD., Etc.

When an error is detected in any data in the article that may alter the content of a publication, the author (s) are obliged to notify the journal, so that it can modify, withdraw or publish a certificate of misprints. In the event that said error is discovered by any member of the Journal, the author or authors will be notified, so that they can demonstrate that their work is correct.

Unjustified fractionation of manuscripts should be avoided. As it is a very extensive study or research, it may be published in several parts, in such a way that each one develops a specific aspect of the original research. The author or authors must guarantee that the different related works are published in the same Journal in order to facilitate the interpretation of the study in general by the readers, avoiding that the publications are carried out consecutively between editions.

Editorial responsibilities

In Duazary Journal, the Editor, together with the Editorial Committee, are responsible for choosing the articles to be published. The criteria for this choice are based on the characteristics of the articles, such as: quality, relevance, originality, unpublished character and contributions to the knowledge of the subject matter addressed by the Journal. In this sense, the Editor and the Editorial Committee will also take into account the diversity and plurality of the contents of the Journal. In the event that an article is rejected, the author will be justified based on these aspects.

The Duazary editorial team is responsible for the style review, layout, publication and printing process for all articles accepted for publication. Likewise, of the diffusion and distribution of the published edition, in this case a maximum number of five copies will be sent to the main author of each article, free of cost, and to the repositories and national and international indexing systems as agreed.

Responsibility of evaluators/peer review

The first stage of reviewing an article that is submitted to Duazary, consists of the review of form and basis by the editorial team. This stage includes the manuscript originality review, which is carried out with the help of the Turnitin software. Then the article undergoes an evaluation process carried out by at least two external peers (national or foreign), who will conceptualize on aspects related to originality, depth and theoretical contributions.

Confidentiality of manuscripts in the evaluation processes

When the evaluation of a writing is carried out, it must be considered as a document of extreme confidentiality, in any of the steps of the editorial process and until its publication is carried out. No part or fragment of the document under review should be disseminated, either for the reviewer's own benefit or that of other people, or harm third parties with such information. However, there are exceptions, such as the help of other experts in the field to strengthen the review process, with the prior authorization of the editor in charge of the publication.

Editing rules

A publication and/or its author should not be cited more than three times in the same manuscript, in addition terms will not be allowed in such citations such as: Op. Cit., Cf. Etc. A maximum textual citation will be allowed, not greater than five lines in each article, this in order to avoid any situation related to plagiarism.

Authors must ensure that the results presented through figures, tables or texts in the articles are original, that they have not been plagiarized, distorted or products of their imagination. They should bear in mind that plagiarism in all their presentations is a serious fact that goes beyond the limits of ethics and is considered as scientific bad practice.

Statement of ethical aspects

After the materials and methods as a secondary title, the procedures followed in the study to ensure compliance with the ethical principles and standards of the 1975 Declaration of Helsinki and its subsequent revisions and of Resolution 8430 of 1993 of the Ministry of Health will be mentioned. from Colombia. In any case, it should be indicated how the rights of the participants were protected and if they were given a consent or authorization of procedures that at the time of sending the manuscript must be submitted. The names of patients, initials or hospital numbers should not be used, especially in illustrative material with the image of the patient or any other element that may indicate the identity of the patient. When animals are used in experiments, it will be indicated whether the guidelines of the home institution, a national research committee or any other entity that gives rise to it have been taken into account, and any national regulations on the handling or use of laboratory animals.
