Abstract

The diseases of the cardiovascular system constitute in the main cause of morbility and mortality in the adult population of the western countries, nevertheless at the present time the incidence of these pathologies in the younger is reaching alarming levels. One of the explanations to this phenomenon is the increase of attitudes that promote the calls modifiable factors of risk like the sedentarismo, the bad nutritional habits, the tabaquismo and the alcoholism; the previous thing added to nonmodifiable factors as the inheritance and gender, contributes to the outbreak of the cardiovascular diseases. Traditionally these pathologies were considered almost exclusive of the industrialized countries, nevertheless the problem this expanding to the countries like Colombia, this perhaps product of the increase in the rate of life and in the acquisition of little healthful styles of life. The objective of this study was to investigate the presence of associated factors of risk with the cardiovascular diseases in a group of students of the medicine program of the Universidad del Magdalena, as part of a work of formative investigation corresponding to the area of Biochemistry. The results were 24% of the investigated subjects display total cholesterol levels and LDL over the safe parameters. The associated factors of risk with these high levels were, the familiar antecedents with a 83% and the overweight with a 50%. This study is constituted in the base for the formulation of a pr oject that it tries to determine the relation between the factors of modifiable and nonmodifiable cardiovascular risk, in the adolescent population of the Santa Marta district.
