Abstract

The present spread of foreign language courses in distance education, increased after the global pandemic, has given ICTs an essential role in the teaching of oral skills in a second language. However, to ensure an effective teaching practice of these skills, in addition to the technological resources for synchronous communication between teachers and students, some knowledge of the didactic potential offered by these instruments and a dynamic autonomy of the agents involved are needed. The present paper attempts to analyze the use of the technological resources used in the teaching and learning of the speaking skills in four preparatory courses for Language Certification exams through Blended Learning, which included an important component of distance learning. The study was carried out through three methods: observation of the technical resources implemented during the course; a survey answered by the students examining their use of those resources; and a series of interviews with the pedagogical team inquiring about their methodological applications. The results show a poor performance of ICTs technical possibilities, from both underuse of the available resources by the students and limited creation of materials adapted to this educational modality by the teachers.
